How do you find your vision, your why, and your passion?
How can you know what is yours and what is pushed on you by the media or society? How can you find your ‘inner why’ that will make you jump out of bed like an excited kid?
Hey,
It's Alex.
When we talk about vision or about why we do what we do in life.
It sounds like something romantic.
Something that only philosophers and intellectuals would think about.
But in reality…
Vision is something that each of us needs in order to know exactly where we are going.
And to have an inner motivation to take actions.
Because if you don't know where you are going and what you actually want,
You may end up in a place that isn't good for you and isn't yours.
How can you know what is yours and what is pushed on you by the media or society?
It all starts with curiosity.
First, you're curious about something: some topic or activity.
You don't think about why you are curious. It's just something that comes from inside of you.
It's a source of energy.
And because it's energy, it's supposed to be converted into something.
So, curiosity is naturally converted into actions.
You start to explore your curiosity in your free time or on vacation. There is no need to be disciplined or push yourself.
You just have a passion to know more or do more.
And:
The more you're curious about things.
The more actions you take.
The more you try.
More new information about yourself you get from the world.
Some things you realize you don't really like. It's just not yours.
Some things you were curious about, but after you try enough, you understand that the activity itself doesn't sit well with you.
And some activities?
You start to have a crush on them.
And this crush? Who knows, maybe it can grow into a long-term thing that you actually will feel good committing to.
Am I talking about relationships here or finding your vision?
The process is the same.
Trying to find your vision, passion, your "why" only by thinking will get you the same results as trying to have a relationship with someone only by thinking about them.
It will only stay in your imagination…
This vision or passion that is based only on your thinking can’t bring you the energy you need in order to make it real in your life.
A real way to find your passion that makes you wake up in the morning and start doing comes from:
Trying new things.
Making mistakes.
Feeling some discomfort.
Experiencing joy and maybe even sadness.
It comes from all the colors that life can give us.
Anything else is ideas that came from media and were pushed on you because there was an “empty space” that belongs to authentic real passion.
And…
This is why healthy childhood is so important.
Childhood with:
Supportive encouraging parents.
Different activities that the child chooses by himself.
Constantly trying new things from inner curiosity.
Childhood is our playground to try everything we can before real life starts…
And this playground helps us to find ourselves.
But…
What happens if we have a childhood full of restrictions, fears, and problems that it's not our responsibility to solve?
We stop being curious.
Because what's the point of being curious if…
"Anyway, I'm not good enough."
"Anyway, my father/mother will not support it."
"Anyway, I will fail."
"It's dangerous, scary."
"And what will the neighbors think..."
When we are in survival mode because our environment isn't safe.
As kids, we can't understand it. But we can feel it.
And when it's unsafe, There is no time for curiosity, passion, or exploration.
We can’t change the past. We can heal it and learn from it. So the big question is…
How do you find your curiosity as a grown-up?
It's a good question for ChatGPT :) I'm sure he can give some good ideas.
What he can't do is give guidelines specifically for you.
Being curious means being open.
Open to something new.
And something new can also be scary...
Just think about it.
Maybe you can find your passion by mistake from all this... And then you actually will need to make changes. To change your job, to explain everything to your partner.
Who has time for all this?
No time… No energy…
But this is the point.
And read it carefully.
When you will be really curious about something.
When you will find your passion.
You will also find the energy for it.
Energy to make the changes in your daily life so there will be space for your passion.
From the state, you are in right now…
You can't feel it. You can’t see it.
So you can just trust the process.
When you find your passion, you will also find the energy for it.
