How to get results by changing your core beliefs?
If you succeed in changing your core beliefs, you will succeed in changing your behavior. By changing your behavior, you will change your results.
Hey,
It's Alex.
Yesterday, I watched Inside Out, Pixar's animated movie.
SPOILER ALERT
If you want to watch the movie, skip this email.
The movie is about a little girl, Riley, and the emotions that manage her teenage life.
It's an interesting, educational movie that teaches the basics of what's actually going on inside our heads.
What happens when we feel certain emotions, make decisions, and act in certain ways.
In the movie, you can see a visual representation of Riley's core self — her core beliefs.
One of the ideas behind the movie is to show us how unique and complicated we are inside. And there are so many things happening behind the scenes.
It shows us that we can be, at the same time:
Insecure and secure.
Strong and weak.
Happy and sad.
Worthy and unworthy.
And each of these aspects affects us.
Affects our actions and how we feel about ourselves.
There are many insights from the movie that you can take away.
The big one that I spotted is that:
You aren't your emotions, and you aren't your beliefs.
You can feel from time to time that you are what you feel.
And you can believe with a hand on your heart that what you are saying about yourself is 100% true.
But in reality…
You are the one who created your core beliefs.
You are the one who made conclusions that:
“The world is like this…” And “People is like this…”
And if you are the one who made the conclusions, you can also be the one who has the power to make new conclusions.
And as a result?
To shift your beliefs.
To change how you feel.
And also to change how you behave.
And…
If you change your behavior, you will automatically have new results.
But how?
It's easier said than done when it comes to putting it into practice.
If you are an adult and most of your life, you’ve seen yourself in a specific way...
How can you change it?
How can you stop feeling something that you feel most of your life?
How can you stop behaving in a toxic way for you and others?
The first step is to realize which kind of belief you have.
Which belief do you have that prevents you from getting the results that you want?
If you can identify it.
You are already halfway to making a change.
The second step is to identify the source.
A source?
Yes. The source.
The source from where the belief came from.
But honestly... I don't think it's possible to do it by yourself.
When I was learning how to eliminate beliefs, I practiced the method on myself.
It’s tough…
And I can say that it's not so efficient… You do need a coach to do it with you.
Or… Life itself needs to show you that your belief actually isn't true. People who travel worldwide have more flexible beliefs about the world and themselves, for example.
I don’t know another way to eliminate limiting beliefs than doing it with a coach.
But I do know that it's important.
Because our core beliefs define the core of all our actions.
And your actions define what you have and what you don’t have.
And if something inside prevents you from thriving in your career or life...
There is always a reason for that.
In my coaching practice, I’m using the Lefkoe method, which has existed since 1985.
It helps eliminate ineffective beliefs that cause us to act in ways that no longer serve us. It can be self-beliefs that define our personality or beliefs about others and the world.
Each person is unique (like Riley in the movie) and needs a unique “inner investigation” to determine the reason for some behavior or emotions.
There are three scientific studies prove that the Lefkoe Method works:
“A Philosophical/Behavioral Exploration of the Lefkoe Belief Process” Year: 2010. Published in: Clinical Psychology & Psychotherapy
“Eliminating the Negative Side Effects of Traumatic Events” Year: 2006. Published in: Behavioral Therapy
“The Lefkoe Method for Eliminating Beliefs: A Proof of Concept Study” Year: 2012. Published in: The International Journal of Behavioral Consultation and Therapy
