Hey, it's Alex.
Here's something small you can try tonight. It takes five seconds.
When the old feeling shows up, stop and name it.
Not the story. Just the feeling, in a few words.
"I feel small."
"I'm scared she's angry with me."
"I want to disappear."
Why does this work?
Putting a feeling into words calms the alarm part of your brain.
In brain scans, you can watch it happen. The alarm area quiets down when people simply name what they feel.
It sounds too simple. But most of us were taught to explain feelings, fix them or hide them.
Very few of us were taught to just say them.
In Gestalt therapy we go one step further. We notice where the feeling sits in your body, and what it wants to do.
That's often where an old pattern starts to loosen.
Try it once this week. Then reply and tell me what you noticed. I'd really like to know.
Alex
